Marybeth Bryant’s  Backroads Bike Tour in Croatia

Marybeths Backroads trip

Day 1: Our bike ride with Backroads. Backroads trips are amazing. The destinations are incredible. They take wonderful care of you. Like loading the bikes and having them ready for you.

Left on private boat from Split. Beautiful views and good ride. Lunch in 200 year old building local fresh food.  Stopped at local olive oil production with a family whose business this had been for hundred of years. Finally, private boats between the islands. After our morning ride to the top of the mountain, we got to swim in the beautiful blue Adriatic.

Bike ride destination:Hvar Island. Blue, blue water and beautiful coast. We are the “Seattle Group”. A must stop for gelato.  Then in the evening, an incredible dinner  outside under the olive trees. Croatian Mediterranean cuisine. So delicious AND healthy!

Experiential travel makes such incredible memories. This Backroads trip has hit all the buttons. Great bike rides, beautiful local, amazing food. Old friends and meeting new ones.

Not only are we bike riding we are learning about local history and eating amazing local cuisine.

We took in sunset from the fort above Hvar one night.

Private boat ride with a swim before reaching Korcula island. Did you know Marco Polo was from Korcula, Croatia? And would you believe a boar crossing sign?

On the last day of our Backroads trip we had a guided tour around the UNESCO world heritage site of Dubrovnik. Stayed at the imperial Grand hotel just outside the walls. Backroads has us just steps from the main gate. So much history. We learned about the bombing of this beautiful city just over 20 years ago. Amazing !

With a  Post trip from Croatia to Slovenia !

A visit to Plitvice National Park north of the Dalmation Coast and inland. We have National Parks in the U.S. Plitvice Park in Croatia is as impressive as the US parks. So beautiful. Travel expands your global vision of the world. Hard to believe, in only 1991 not far from here, the Homeland defensive war began.

We are stayed at the castle on the hill in Motovun, Croatia.

Croatia has so much to offer. Here we are on the Istria Peninsula. In Pula is the 6th largest Roman amphitheater: it is well preserved. And the charming port town of Rovenj. – a little of Italy in Croatia.

Lovely Ljubljana, Slovenia. Great city for sipping a coffee and people watching. Had a wonderful walking tour . That is always a good idea when traveling to learn as much as possible about your new destination. This city is full of sidewalk cafes along the river that flows on to the Danube. It is nestled in by the Julian Alps. Nearby is Lake Bled and Vintar Gorge National Park. Special dessert is  Kremna Rezina. YUM
